WHAT NEEDED TO CHANGE?
NS&I (National Savings and Investments) is one of the largest savings organisations in the UK, with over 25 million customers and more than £100 billion invested. As a regulated business, many of their people have professional qualifications, so it was imperative to NS&I that learning resulted in a recognised qualification.
Therefore, when the need arose to develop new managers, it was a natural fit to opt for an ILM-accredited programme. NS&I’s Learning and Development Manager wanted participants to gain an underpinning knowledge of some of the leadership and management theories and models, but more importantly, to have some practical techniques and strategies to apply in the workplace.
Thanks to our long-term relationship with NS&I, we recommended the ILM Level 3 Award in Leadership and Management, knowing that it met every objective and gave them the ability to select modules that met specific business and learner needs.
We agreed a five-day programme that included induction and support of the learners, using a range of methods to assess their knowledge and application of the learning in the workplace.
We successfully embedded the programme into the culture of NS&I, including in our design Action Learning Sets to allow participants the opportunity for self-assessment. These Action Learning Sets formed part of a support group that enabled delegates to talk about how they had identified their learning and pinpoint areas where they were still facing challenges.
This also encouraged an environment where they could be challenged and assisted in overcoming these challenges. On completion of the programme, a solid networking and buddy system was in place.
All of the delegates who took part in the programme successfully achieved their ILM Level 3 award in leadership and management skills.
Some then went on to deepen their knowledge and understanding by achieving the ILM Level 3 certificate in leadership and management skills.
A total of 26 qualifications were achieved and ILM confirmed that all students finished their assignments to a very high standard.
“I’ve really enjoyed completing the ILM award and really appreciate all the help and guidance you have given me – thank you.”
